Éditions du BRGM, the publications arm of the French geological survey, BRGM (Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières,) first published in 1984-86 a work entitled "Terroirs et Vins de France", the first book to deal comprehensively with the French concept of terroir from a geoscientific viewpoint.
The book consists of chapters, each by renowned expert(s), describing the geology, soils and wines of all the major wine-producing regions of France in the fashion of a self-drive geological tour. Fittingly, the compiler and editor of the volume is Charles Pomerol.
There is also an English-language edition entitled "The Wines and Winelands of France", the cover of which features on the Éditions du BRGM Home Page.
This is a great way to begin your "geological journey" into terroir, particularly if you happen to find yourself in France. |
